CRAZY DAYS in Cody –

August 1, Friday and August 2, Saturday the merchants of Cody will be offering CRAZY bargains about town!  Be sure to make the rounds and enjoy the awesome deals!

Meeteetse Museum Annual Kirwin Trip on Saturday August 16.

The Meeteetse Museum is pleased to announce our annual road trip to the ghost town of Kirwin Wyoming on Saturday, August 16.   The trip consists of driving about forty miles into the Absaroka Mountains, with interpretive stops at the Double-D Ranch and the abandoned mining town of Kirwin on the North Fork of the Wood River, before returning to Meeteetse.  The Kirwin area is where famed aviatrix Amelia Earhart was building a retirement cabin before disappearing in the Pacific on her historic around-the-world flight in 1937.  The trip will be guided by former residents Jim and Rick Dunrud, sons of Carl Dunrud, a former Double-D owner.

The group will meet at 8:00 a.m. at the Bank Museum (1033 Park Avenue) in Meeteetse, and the trip will take a full day.  Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes or boots, dress appropriately for mountain weather (warm, layered clothing is recommended), bring food and beverages for the whole day, and plan to pack out all trash.  Transportation is limited to four-wheel-drive vehicles with good clearance and vehicle pooling is highly recommended – we will try to place participants needing transportation with those who have space in their four-wheel-drive vehicles.  Cameras and binoculars are encouraged, and having a good supply of water to drink at the higher elevation is recommended.

Advance registration is strongly recommended for this popular event.  There is no charge for the trip, and the Meeteetse Museum will provide information packets about the town and the trip for a $3.00 donation.  Please call the Meeteetse Museum at (307) 868-2423, or email at mmuseum@tctwest.net to register or to obtain further information.
This event is sponsored by the Meeteetse Museum District.
